Christ is in our midst! · المسيح بيننا
A parish is built by the many hands that offer themselves in love. There is a place for your gifts here — no experience required, only a willing heart.
Every gift — a warm welcome at the door, a pot of coffee, a voice in the choir, an hour spent tidying the grounds — builds up the Body of Christ. When each of us offers what we can, the whole parish flourishes, and the work of no one becomes a burden.
In the Orthodox Church, service is not a task list to be filled but a way of loving God and neighbor. Christ Himself "came not to be served but to serve," and He calls us to do the same — to wash one another's feet in a thousand small and hidden ways.
Serving is also how we come to belong. Newcomers often say that they first felt like part of the family not in the pew, but at the coffee-hour table or beside a fellow parishioner folding chairs after the festival. Whatever your gifts, whatever your season of life, there is room for you to give them here.
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." 1 Peter 4:10
Where You Can Help
From the sanctuary to the kitchen, here are some of the ways our parishioners give their time and talent. Don't see your gift listed? Ask — we'll find a place for it.
Host a Sunday coffee hour, bring a dish, or help welcome and clean up. The table where the parish gathers after Liturgy.
Help form our children in the faith as a teacher or classroom helper — training and materials provided.
Lift up our prayer in Byzantine and Arabic chant. Readers of music and eager beginners alike are welcome.
Boys and men who assist the priest in the altar during services, learning reverence and the order of worship.
Cook, set up, sell tickets, or tear down at the Annual Festival and other parish gatherings. Many hands, much fun.
Chant the epistle and read the appointed texts during services, giving voice to the Word in the assembly.
Be the first warm face a newcomer meets. Hand out bulletins, answer questions, and help visitors feel at home.
Serve the poor, prepare meals, and welcome the stranger through the parish's charitable ministries in our city.
Lend a hand with repairs, gardening, seasonal clean-ups, and the ongoing care of our church home.
Tend the candle stand and parish bookstore, helping others find icons, books, and candles for their prayer.
